Truly a Bucket List Tour!
Because we were on a British Isles cruise we only had 1 day to spend in Edinburgh, so we wanted the day to be as full as possible. 2017 is the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, so our small group of four was especially interested in the Reformation and Covenanter history of Scotland. All the arrangements made by our hosts, Jimmy and wife Helen Fisher, exceeded our wildest expectations for the custom tour. They provided a comfortable van, with Helen doing an excellent job of driving and Jimmy providing the commentary from a wealth of knowledge regarding the history of the nation. We visited many well-known historical sites including St. Andrews Castle, St. Andrews Cathedral, St. Giles Cathedral, and Greyfriars Kirkyard, which commemorates the lives of some 18,000 Covenanters who died for their faith. The Fishers were also very knowledgeable about less well-known sites off the beaten path which hold significant relevance to the Protestant Reformation and Covenanter history. Our wonderful 8 hour day was completely filled with only a short stop for a “takeaway” lunch. At the conclusion of the tour we felt we had merely scratched the surface, and already look forward to a return trip where we can spend much more time. In the meantime, we know we have made two new friends for life, and look forward to another more detailed tour with them at a future date. If you are interested in a tour of this type, we could not offer a higher recommendation for Scottish Reformation Tours. Jimmy and Helen are the best!
