Wealth of Information about the Reformation in Scotland
My wife and I had two days in Edinburgh, and fortunately found this gem of an experience. Helen and Jimmy suggested a full day touring Reformation sites up to St. Andrews, and back, and a half-day walking tour in Edinburgh. We stood at the places where martyrs from the First and Second Reformation were executed, where John Knox preached, in the first church built for Protestant worship in Scotland, where the Scottish National Covenant was written…and it could have gone on for many more days. This is not just a tour, but a mission for these two, and a ministry of their church. The history is not widely known, not to this depth. One of the highlights was when we stood at the mass grave of many who died for their faith in Jesus and the Word of God, three pre- and young teen children came by. Jimmy, with our permission, summarized the brutality and sacrifice of the Covenanters in powerful but gentle words to them. That was amazing to experience. This couple has done elaborate several day tours for groups young and old, nearby Edinburgh like ours to all over the United Kingdom. On their website they have resources to inform you of the historical background and potential sites to visit. They do a great job of communicating clearly, whatever your background, both in their well-sourced written materials, and in person on the tour. They are a tremendous resource of important perspective on God’s work in a beautiful land. They will tailor your tour to your specific needs. And the cost is very reasonable, and goes to continue their mission. We have made two good friends in Christ in Scotland, will remember them, and tour with them again.
